Life would be very interesting if you were a set or a subset or even a combination of sets. Marcie Aboff gives a remarkably clear, age-appropriate introduction of this concept, with language that is especially fitting for children in kindergarten through second grade. Her explanation goes beyond the simple definition of a set and sneaks in a preview of set operations, without resorting to technical jargon. The examples are refreshingly creative and taken from the context of a child's world. Worn-out examples of bushels of apples and oranges are replaced by dirty clothes in baskets, trophies on a dresser, and comic books on shelves. The book is part of the delightful "Math Fun" series and entertains as well as instructs. The whimsical illustrations in bold, bright colors add to the fun of learning mathematics. A glossary, suggested classroom activities, an index, and additional resources are included at the end of the book. This book would be a wonderful addition to any classroom., Celebrate a love of language and math with Word Fun and Math Fun. Each set introduces basic concepts using simple text and enhances the learning with silly and unexpected examples. A whimsical cast of characters promises to engage eager minds. Theyll have so much fun, they wont even realize theyre learning.
