Donner's Superman 2 is great but not perfect
Richard Donner's cut of 'Superman 2' is very entertaining and a neat alternate look at how the movie would've turned out had he not been fired by the producers and replaced by Richard Lester, who finished up the film and his version was released to theaters in 1981. Donner's cut is engaging and explores Lois and Clark's relationship better. Lester's version has some clunky, silly moments to it, but that seems to be mostly gone from Donner's cut. I kinda prefer Donner's version, but it's not perfect. Two mistakes near the end mar what could've been a near perfect version. I love that Donner was able to restore footage, especially Brando's scenes, which made the movie better. However near the end after the villains are dispatched, Lex Luthor suddenly disappears, with no explanation~! A deleted scene which should've been included in Donner's cut explains things, so why wasn't it included in the film? Also, Superman spins around the earth at the end to reverse time just like the end of Superman the Movie, which felt unoriginal, a re-hash of the first film. Also, if time was reversed, and none of the events with Zod and others happened, then Clark was never beaten up by the bully in the diner, so there was no reason for him to return and beat the bully up at the end other than for revenge, which makes Superman seem petty. I wish Donner would've looked at those things and fixed them, but it's too late now.Still, this is a nice version and I recommend it despite its flaws~!
