Liza did a splended job as usual, and saved an otherwise so-so production.
The technical quality of the DVD was quite poor. The volume drifted throughout the movie from normal, to too low to be audible. That defect ruined the overall experience as I was required to continuously turn the volume up and down. This was obviously a reproduction defect, and not a defect in the original release of the movie. I am thinking that the DVD might be a Chinese knock-off.
Early Minnelli movie is nostalgic in the extreme for this kind of character oriented filmmaking that took a chance on a story that doesn't feel commercial at all, but proved to be.
