It is a compelling film with a very surprising end. It is in French with subtitles which is very limited as there are only around twenty-five spoken lines in the entire three hour duration of this film.
The actress, Delphine Seyrig - the first time I'd seen her perform - is phenomenal - able to convey with her eyes and body language what most modern actors can't accomplish in one hour and forty five minutes of non-stop yakkity-yak of predictable film dialogue. There is no action - rather a few days in the daily life of a woman - and what happens in day three.......
I hope this review is helpful.
Delphine Seyrig peels potatoes and polishes her son's shoes for about 3 hours. I am quite happy watching this and hardly ever remember that she stabs her john at the end.
