It takes you in and doesn't let go..when Hollywood was still great.
This was getting close to the end of the era when movie actors were superb in their roles. They were convincing, and the plot and directing was top notch. A timeless classic with Newman and Redford set in Depression Era, and lifestyles of Conmen and Grifters. Superbly written script, keeping the viewer wondering who is with whom, and testing loyalties. Awesome Movie - 7 Oscar Winner
It's one of those classic movies that most people don't know about, but they have heard of Paul Newman and Robert Redford. It's the same actors and director from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid." A trio of "grifters" steal about $10,000 or a days gambling take, from a big-time mob boss in Chicago. One grifter, Luther, is killed and the other two are marked to be "knocked off." (Hooker & The Erie Kid). Paul Newman plays the experienced con man who takes the inexperienced grifter, Hooker, under his wing and runs a con, employing over 30 guys to part the ruthless boss man from several million of his dollars for killing Luther. Paul Newman recruits some of his old crew to start the con, whilst he trains Hooker to play 2nd man in the con. Using the music of Marvin Hamlisch and the ragtime music of Scott Joplin and some well placed, artistic bumpers to divide the scenes, it is an entertaining, 30's-era, stylized, movie. Master Crime at it's best
