Starker on CD
While I might prefer the LP format, this boxed set is a great value introduction to the Starker catalog on Mercury Living Presence. The supplied booklet with notes from the LP sleeves were appreciated, as the text on the miniaturized cd sleeves needed a magnifying glass to be read! Janos Starker's insights into the difference between recorded and live performances were quite enlightening. On these recordings he proves himself a master! Sound quality is excellent and tape hiss unobtrusive. The music is beautiful and moving, from a great cellist.
