NotesA legitimate national treasure, The Fairfield Four has a history that goes back nearly 100 years. Today, they still sing in the style that made them famous: music that is rooted in the early African American church. Started in 1921 in the basement of The Fairfield Baptist Church in Nashville, TN, the group won a promotional contest that gave them a daily appearance on a national radio show for a decade. When radio died out, the fortunes of the group waned, but in a comeback in the 90's, The Fairfield Four received numerous honors including two Grammy awards, a National Heritage Award, and an induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. This resurgence of support and recognition led to an appearance in the major motion picture and the corresponding soundtrack, 'O Brother Where Art Thou,' awarding the group the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2002. Now, new music is emerging with the release of 'Still Rockin' My Soul!'. The Fairfield Four's distinctive a cappella gospel harmonies take center stage, and the album features the soulful vocals of Lee Ann Womack.
