Georgeous music superbly performed and recorded!
Heitor Villa-Lobos composed this superb musical depiction for the film "Green Mansions", a love story set in the Amazon jungle. Unfortunately the film was a flop, the producers had also only wished for some musical themes, and didn't know what to do when given this large, full score. It was mostly refused, Villa-Lobos was a bit insulted, and instead recorded it in 1958 with himself conducting, and with the immortal Brazilian coloratura Bidu Sayao flawlessly singing these gorgeous melodies. A fine recording, much worth having.
But this excellent much newer recording with Renee Fleming, Alfred Heller and the Moscow Radio Symphony will send you above the treetops of the Amazon; sound quality is outstanding, performance astonishingly good, very much worth hearing and rehearing--most enjoyable! Not to be missed!
