The work of Mary Wollstonecraft addresses the rights of women, and Martin Luther King's Letter from a Birmingham Jail provides insight into more contemporary issues of race and society. Additionally, students explore the philosophies of Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill, and Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, whose manifesto on communism changed systems of economics and governments. Nicholas Caste earned his Ph.D. at Emory University. Dr. Caste is a member of the faculty in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he has taught additional courses in the Department of Philosophy. His areas of specialization include political philosophy, American philosophy, the history of philosophy and logic and critical reasoning. His articles have been published in the Journal of Social Philosophy , the Journal of Value Enquiry and the Journal of Business Ethics .
