A generously budgeted show jointly produced by HBO and the BBC, ROME takes viewers back to 52 BC for a chance to relive the reign of Julius Caesar. The first season revolves around the lives of two Roman soldiers, Lucius Vorenus (Kevin McKidd) and Titus Pullo (Ray Stevenson), who win favour with Caesar (Ciaran Hinds) by defeating a mutinous plot from the devious Pompey Magnus (Kenneth Cranham). This affords the two men a gateway into the lives of Rome's ruling classes, and so the season unfolds, with intricately woven plots, fine acting, and stunning recreations of the ancient city, to provide a thoroughly engrossing television show. Details have been painstakingly pored over to ensure accuracy, so both history buffs and viewers less versed in the ways of Caesar should find something to enjoy here. Wow, its all go!
We all know the Italian history but this is right in your front room! nudity from the start, blood, brutality (I sped through some of those) you are waiting to see whats the story of the next family, will they be found out, two faced friends etc. Senates are out maneuvering each other. Had to see the 6 disks and the..14(?) episodes back to back! ...11th and 12th most gorey. A good history lesson, makes you appreciate living in 2017!Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Entertaining and enjoyable.

Romans Red in tooth and Claw -so sophisticated but scheming, violent, dissembling. Superb acting and film.
I remember this from its first showing, and it still reverberates in my mind. The sets are amazing, the whole production is so realistic and honest, no glamour, giving a really fascinating insight into the Roman world, apparently sophisticated, but at the same time scheming, in-fighting, loyal and disloyal, charming and savage, kindly and brutal. Amazing view of History
Terrifically accurate in cast and characters and scenarios. Probably as realistic of the power, brutalism and the real roman civilization as could be envisaged in todays world. Particularly good at representing both high and low society and it's outlook on life and survival. Photography particularly good and believable. Et Tu Brute
Great series, mostly accurate from a historical perspective. But, still able to flesh out a good fictional story. You follow two soldiers, who happen to be there, when history plays out. Series 1 - Caesar to the Ides of March.
