Neil Simon's spoof of CASABLANCA and THE MALTESE FALCON, among others, tells the story of private detective Lou Peckinpaugh (Falk), a man accused of killing his own partner. As Peckinpaugh follows a trail of looney characters around San Francisco, he uncovers a plot involving a dozen diamonds hidden in an egg carton. Meanwhile, he also attempts to help members of the French Resistance find safe passage to Oakland. In addition to all this lunacy, he must assist the group in the search for their missing Liquor License. It was stolen by a Member of the Nazi Party -- which just so happens to be based in Cincinnati! Falk is hysterical in this entertaining send-up of classic cinema.Product Identifiers

Typical Neil Simon humor
If you like Neil Simon's brand of humor and a movie just full of stars, this is it. It is also reminiscent of one of our all time favorites-Murder By Death (with MANY of the same stars) so it was a natural for us to watch. Horrible script, Great Cast, Waste of money.
Can't believe what a cast and horrible script by Neil SImon who in an interview can't admit how terribly written it was. Phil Silvers was in a 10 second shot at the end. Absolutely hilarious take off on Humphry Bogart movies "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon". Don't expect "Columbo" out of this movie - see Peter Falk as Bogart and preferably watch the basis films first, and then the laughs are ongoing. Note the DVD is double-sided: Full Screen on one side and Wide Screen on the other. Absolutely funny. Watched it several times and still laughed.
I can’t tell you how hard I laughed during this movie! I love classic mystery films and as funny as this movie is, it stays true to the mystery tropes you see in these kinds of films. Very funny
