Brilliant telling of an actual French murder case.
This is a filmed version of an historical event/ actual murder in France in the Early 1900's involving two sisters who became maids for a house. The event has inspired several plays and movies: "The Maids", "My Sister In This House", to name two. This version follows "My Sister In This House" more than the story told in "The Maids". Joely Richardson is BRILLIANT as the older sister. I have never seen an on-screen emotional breakdown quite like her character has. Mesmerizing, Terrifying, and you cannot look away. All 4 of the ladies in the cast are wonderful. Once you've seen the film, look up the actual case on line. It is tragic and horrible. Those two girls had NO chance in life due to a sadistic and psychotic mother who basically wanted to prostitute the girls and take their money for herself.
