It is not merely that his writing is so lucid and intelligent or that his taste is so inclusive butdiscerning. The key to his particular magic is that he is always alert to thecomplex pleasures that animateliterature. His engaging essays are those of a restless, omnivorous reader anda true bookman., As much about a passion for collecting and living with books, about chance discoveries and recoveries of the forgotten, as it is about the inestimable pleasures of reading. Dirda may be as well read as anyone alive., Browsings is as much about living with books, about serendipitous discovery, as about the boundless pleasures of reading. The author's personality is so vivid and immediate that areaderly rapport is established almost instantly. The hallmarks of the Dirdaniansensibility includes a wry, slightly avuncular tone that wears its eruditionslightly, a pronounced interest in genre fiction, and a sturdy sort ofcommon-sense approach to critical theory, all with a light dusting of loveablecurmudgeon and a sprinkle of raffish boulevardier. Cheerfully eccentric, Dirdaeschews the lofty pronouncement of Olympian judgment, preferring instead a haleand friendly exploration of shared enthusiasm., Browsings is as much about living with books, about serendipitous discovery, as about the boundless pleasures of reading. From Pulitzer Prize-winning book critic Michael Dirda comes a collection of his most personal and engaging essays on the literary life--the perfect companion for any lover of books., Dirda's latest volume collects fifty of his witty and wide-ranging reflections on literary journalism, book collecting, and the writers he loves. Book arrived in great condition. It was described accurately. It was shipped in a bubble mailer, so there was some minor damage to it on edges. No big deal, still worth the price! Seller was communicative and recieved my message when I dmed them about an issue.

Shipped promptly and packed up securely. All books are in great condition. The box part of the box set looks like it may have come apart and was taped up on one of the upper corners. Not a big deal to me and the box still fits all the books securely, but the taping was not mentioned in the description. Would have been disappointing if I was looking for a box set that looked like it was in mint or near mint condition.

AAA+++ Book arrived on time & undamaged. Could have been protected by a box but came came shipped in bubble shipping slip. Lucky I guess. As advertised used but in like new condition. Sells else where for around $100.00 locally. Price was worth the chance. Collection book for my wife & made her happy. Would buy again but hope for better packing for a hard cover book. Quick shipping
