    Great transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville.     Catholic Bible notes, and lots of them

    I had never seen this book in person before I purchased it through eBay and it was so much more than I expected--a little overwhelming even. Surely there is no such thing as "the only Scripture commentary you will ever need" because there are many things to say about Sacred Scripture even within the bounds of faithfully Catholic commentary, which is what this aims to be. But there's exceptional value in this book and it's quite a resource--even with useful and scholarly thumbnail information about some things beyond Sacred Scripture itself that are of course not treated as Divine Revelation, such as pseudepigrapha, the Dead Sea Scrolls, gnostic stuff, Philo, Josephus, etc. This book prominently incorporates Catholic historical-critical interpretation, and also references interpretations ...

    Scholarly and Comprhesive Text

    This is an essential volume for anyone who is seriously interested in Bible studies. The introductory material for each book is extremely helpful and adds great insight into your reading. This coupled with the copious additions beyond the specific biblical analysis helps the reader to gain an understanding of the larger culture in which the individual books were originally drafted. For example, there is an insightful section on Hebrew Poetry, The Synoptic Problem, History of Israel or Pauline Theology to name a few. Though most of our Bibles will address some of the same topics, I have never found one that addressed such a range--and all supported with valid research. This Biblical Commentary is most comprehensive and is a excellent addition to a persona library.

    Great reference book for Scripture

    The JBC is the best one volume reference book using the historical-critical method to interpret the Bible. It has line by line analysis of both Old and New Testament, and also excellent summaries of each book or group of books in the Bible.

    Best Biblical Commentary on the Market.

    This is the best Biblical commentary on the market. You can't read the Bible as if it is a cookbook and every word is meant to be taken literally. If you think that Jesus told Peter to forgive 7 times 7 and the answer is 49, you're wrong. You need a commentary to understand what scripture is telling us. This is an excellent reference book.
