Synopsis
This is the companion photo history to SOG: The Secret Wars of American's Commandos in Vietnam. In 1972 the U.S. military took steps to ensure that such a book could never be printed by destroying all the known photos that existed of the top-secret Studies and Observations Group. But unknown to those in charge, SOG veterans brought back with them hundreds of photographs of SOG in action and kept them secret for more than three decades. More than 700 irreplaceable photos bring to life the stories of SOG legends Larry Thorne, Bob Howard, Dick Meadows, George Sisler, Q and others, and documents what really happened deep inside enemy territory: Operation Tailwind, the Son Tay raid, SOG's defense of Khe Sanh, Hatchet Force operations, Bright Light rescues, HALO insertions, string extractions, SOG's darkest programs and much more.

    Great transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville.     One of a Kind

    If you REALLLY want to see photos of a clandestine war we were fighting in Vietnam, photos of the one the Government tried to hide, this large book is a must. The Government ordered all SOG photos in its possession destroyed, but it didn't count on the ones our SOG guys had sent home. This is an historic collection of the ones that escaped destruction.

    Vietnam veteran loves this book

    I have read many books about the Vietnam War, and this is, without question, the most detailed explanation about SOG , including the hundreds of photographs. It is more expensive than most of the Vietnam books, but well worth it. "Numba One Book, GI."

    Recon and Hatchet Forces

    I was at FOB2 with John Plaster when he was writing the book. I am in the Hatchet section. Like the quote, "We were soldiers once, and young." from the movie. There are many that had the privilege to serve in SF at that time. Most came back, some are still there, but none are forgotten. Thank you John Plaster.
