"...biochemical and molecular researchers from around the globe have produced 35 chapters documenting the present state of knowledge in selected areas of copper pharmacology and toxicology. the state-of-the-art data provided will no doubt stimulate challenging research with this essential trace element required by organism ranging from bacteria to mammals." - Veterinary and Human Toxicology"The book has excellent introductory chapters, and summarizes much recent research at the genetic and cellular levels." - Newsletter of the British Toxicological Society"Dr. Massaro must be congratulated for editing this comprehensive book on copper. There are so many outstanding chapters in this compendium that highlighting any one of them should not detract from the others...this book is a treasure trove of references. The price of the book, though modest for this compendium would be justified for the Preface and the first chapter alone. This book is highly recommended. At the present time it has no equal." -International Journal of Toxicology, "...biochemical and molecular researchers from around the globe have produced 35 chapters documenting the present state of knowledge in selected areas of copper pharmacology and toxicology. the state-of-the-art data provided will no doubt stimulate challenging research with this essential trace element required by organism ranging from bacteria to mammals." - Veterinary and Human Toxicology "The book has excellent introductory chapters, and summarizes much recent research at the genetic and cellular levels." - Newsletter of the British Toxicological Society "Dr. Massaro must be congratulated for editing this comprehensive book on copper. Synopsis
Edward J. Massaro and a panel of leading biomedical researchers and clinical practitioners review, in-depth, the status of our current knowledge concerning the biochemistry of copper in general and its role in health and disease in particular. Drawing on the wealth of new information emerging from the molecular biology revolution, these experts survey the most important research areas of copper pharmacology and toxicology, including copper proteins and transport, copper toxicity and therapeutics, and copper metabolism and homeostasis. They also discuss the molecular pathogenesis of copper in a variety of metabolic diseases, Menkes and Wilson's diseases and occipital horn syndrome, as well as the role of copper in Parkinson's disease, prion disease, familial amytrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Alzheimer's disease., There is great interest in the pharmacology and toxicology of copper from practitioners across a broad spectrum of biomedical research and clinical disciplines. This book contains studies in prokaryotic organisms and yeast that have identified membrane-associated proteins that mediate the uptake or export of copper from cells. Also vcovered is the identification of proteins of similar function in mammal's revealing a remarkable structural and functional conservation of copper metabolism between bacteria, yeast and humans. Furthermore, studies of the function and localization of the products of the Menkes and Wilson's disease genes have provided valuable insight into the mechanisms of copper balance and their role in maintaining apprpriate copper distribution in mammals. The volume shows results of studies implicating a role of copper in the pathogenesis of neuronal injury in Alzheimer's disease and other prion-associated encephalopathies. The Handbook of Copper Pharmacology and Toxicology, reviews the current status of knowledge pertaining to the research areas noted above, and will be an invaluable reference to researchers and students interested in the copper pharmacology and toxicology in a broad sense.

Item was lost in delivery- but after some communication, seller was understanding and provided a refund. I ordered another and had it sent elsewhere. My main issue was that it felt as if I was getting automated responses at first!! Please have humans review human inquiries!! It was painstaking explaining the situation to an A.I. who only repeats unhelpful replies. Thanks again!! Otherwise. Great price! Great seller!

This hardback book is of the highest quality, has a fine appearance , arrived in perfect condition, and is an excellent value. On what I was not asked about this time, communicating with the seller would have required using email outside of the eBay system, because they do not accept eBay messages, the book was well packed in a purpose-designed cardboard box, the shipping was faster than I expected for the bound media rate, and the book was exactly as described and pictured.

Book is like new as described (remainder). Price was fair Shipping time was quick, but one problem is the packaging. It was simply put in a big brown envelope (too big for the mailbox) with no inner packing i.e no plastic wrapping inside to protect the book. The book was left outside our door in the rain while we were out and the envelope was soaked. When we dried the package and opened it the back of the dust jacket was wet. I suggest the seller use some inner package packing to the protect it
