Produced by David M Allen (Strange Times), it was the band's first full studio recordings in more than 15 years. Featuring the rich guitars and powerful vocals associated with previous Chameleons albums; WCIA is enriched by members solo pursuits throughout the 1990's, with some of the songs having an acoustic, almost folksy feel. But fans of The Chameleons rockier side won't be disappointed with tracks packing an almighty punch. Let's Face it; Rock is Dead. She didn't die of a Heroin Overdose as expected but fell asleep in her oatmeal and drowned to death at the old folks home. Rock was born in the ZERO year of our Lord Rock & Roll when a black man picked up his axe and asked the Musical Question 'Mableen, Why Won't You be True---Why do you do the THINGS that you do?!!!" Rock came of age in the 60s and we pledged our eternal love to her. She hit the skids in the mid 70s and was briefly dethroned by DISCO and C&W. I watched helplessly as those snotty YABOWs from CLASS OF 1977 (PUNKS) made fun of her as she layed in a drunken stupor in the Gutter. Well, Rock cleaned up her act and, Like Cher & Marlene Detrich, vamped around reliving her glory days set to late 70s-early 90s Post Punk. Rock had her first stroke ... Let's Face it; Rock is Dead. I know this as fact because my buddies and I attended her wake, alright?!!! Rock is DEAD. Rock no longer matters. Rock is no longer MAINSTREAM. Its the now the music of DRIPPY OLD HIPPIES and Geeky College Professors pontificating upon 20th Century Cultural Icons as viewed from a distant past. Don't Believe Me? Go to any Gas Station, Suburban Mall, Supermarket or Dress Shop and listen, if you dare, to what they are playing in the background. Sorry, Mr. Neil Young but that ain't ROCK&ROLL. Rock will die with me and there is not a damn thing I can do about it!!! So why is 'WHY CALL IT ANYTHING' the last, Great Rock & Roll CD of Post Y2K? First and Foremost, It is 100% Rock, not some B*stard-Pop song where someone is rapping over The Police's 'EVER BREATH SHE TAKES' and calling it 'THEIR MUSIC'. There is no White Singer hopelessly trying to sound Black or some twink on his COMPUTER taking a single electronic Riff and cut & pasting it into a merchandisable SONG. No, This is REAL MUSIC played by a bunch of '80s Geezers who were disgusted at what passes for music on the....what? INTERNET?!!! A bunch of Post Punk Pre-Depends Musicians who reformed their band and essentually recorded a CD EXACTLY where they left off in the mid 1980s. Can You say GEORGEOUS BEATLESQUE Harmonies? Can you sneer 'Melody Lines' that have you prancing naked in the shower (or in front of your living room open window aka Risky Business) Slap this CD in your Player, turn off the lights and pretend you are Marty McFly in Back to the Future Part II. YES, YOU & DOC took the Deloren back to the Future to 15OCT2015, you didn't like what you saw and the moment you got home you slapped this into the CD Player of your FRESHLY WAXED Truck...Uhhh, No Tip; Biff---I said TWO COATS, not one, I can see MUD on my rims a-n-d Ya' missed a spot!!! If you are new to the Chameleons or the entire POST PUNK (2D Wave) Scene, you'll want to start H-E-R-E!!! Why I L-O-V-E this CD. First, it is a DOUBLE-BUBBLE. You get the breath taking WHY CALL IT ANYTHING a-n-d a second disc called LIVE AT THE ACADEMY. Second, the sound is PRESTINE. I already downloaded this CD off the Internet previously B-U-T my MP3 download at 128KB AIFF doesn't sound half a good as this CD. Enough Said. RECOMMENDATIONS: Start Here and pick up every Chameleons CD they've recorded (and then pine when I tell you you missed their SOLD OUT FARE WELL CONCERT in OCT-NOV2015). Then pick up THE SOUND (box set), then Comstat Angels ITS HISTORY (four disc box set) Then Echo & The BunnyMen Box Set then Tinderbox by Souxie & the Banchees, Then Floodland by Sisters of Mercy (or the Box Set) then LEFT OF THE DIAL box set by Rino Records. Post Punk was my Era, I can dig the 60s like 60s wanna be Hippy Steve Jobs but, it wasn't you era, dude. If Im going to GRAVE ROB, I want a fresh corpse from my 80s Gen..Gen..GEN-ERATION!!!
