Synopsis
#1 New York Times Bestseller * New York Times Readers' Pick: Top 100 Books of the 21st Century * The Summer Reading Pick for President Barack Obama and Bill Gates Official U.S. edition with full color illustrations throughout. From renowned historian Yuval Noah Harari comes a groundbreaking narrative of humanity's creation and evolution--a #1 international bestseller--that explores the ways in which biology and history have defined us and enhanced our understanding of what it means to be "human." One hundred thousand years ago, at least six different species of humans inhabited Earth. Yet today there is only one--homo sapiens. What happened to the others? And what may happen to us? Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book that begins about 70,000 years ago with the appearance of modern cognition. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas. Dr. Harari also compels us to look ahead, because over the last few decades humans have begun to bend laws of natural selection that have governed life for the past four billion years. We are acquiring the ability to design not only the world around us, but also ourselves. Where is this leading us, and what do we want to become? Featuring 27 photographs, 6 maps, and 25 illustrations/diagrams, this provocative and insightful work is sure to spark debate and is essential reading for aficionados of Jared Diamond, James Gleick, Matt Ridley, Robert Wright, and Sharon Moalem., Official U.S. edition with full color illustrations throughout. #1 New York Times Bestseller The Summer Reading Pick for President Barack Obama, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg, now available as a beautifully packaged paperback From a renowned historian comes a groundbreaking narrative of humanity's creation and evolution--a #1 international bestseller--that explores the ways in which biology and history have defined us and enhanced our understanding of what it means to be "human." Amazing! I offered the seller a little less than asking price and was accepted so I was super excited about that! The manga was shipped quickly and arrived promptly, it was only coming from 1 state away haha. The earl and the fairy manag is exactly as photos showed and in excellent condition. Furthermore the packaging was beautiful. It was wrapped in brown paper and tapped shut like a Christmas/yule present with a thank you sticker. Then put into a black bubble wrap shipping package. A+ THANKS

The shipping was very fast honestly some of my orders that I ordered before this are taking longer so I'm honestly so glad it came earlier. The packing is meh not bad but not good either but I don't mind it. It is as described it just said "good" and it was good. I honestly love it and I would 100 percent buy from this seller again. 👍

  • Easy read, take with a grain of salt.

It's an interesting and easy read. I found it a little biased by the author's preconceptions and personal beliefs. Idealizes, like other authors, the pre-agricultural times as if nomadic hunter gatherers had a great life. Bashes all world religions as nothing more than costumed myths.

  • My new favorite book!

Love it, Love it, Love it! This is the best non-fiction book I have ever read. I bought two copies and gave one to a customer, who says the same thing as well. This is not your average, textbook style writing. Its engaging and is spiked with humor (the necessity of gossip and the psychology of truck nuts are just two examples). If you are reading reviews on this, it means you are interested. Do yourself a favor and just get it.

  • A handbook for humankind

Sapiens is an insightful, history-laden explanation of how and why we humans organize ourselves the way we do. At the same time, it's a readable story of human history. Harari is an apt guide who doesn't preach, but lays out for us how we may have come by some of our inner workings. At a time when the future looks opaque, an unflinching look at our past can do wonders. I read all three Harari books this past summer, but found Sapiens to be the most compelling and important work of the three. A book that will change your mind, if you're open to it.

  • it explains the "why".

The author explores the determinate factors that led to the transitional changes in human progress from chimpanzee to spaceman.
