A great complement for a masterful book.
Any literature, including the screenplay in Brideshead Revisited, by John Mortimer is bound to be good. This series adds to my conviction that the foregoing assertion is right. The book, by Evelyn Waugh, is itself nicely written and thoughtful, and the series brings out Waugh's main theme and its many foundations. Brideshead Revisted - PBS Series a Masterpiece
I was enraptured with the PBS series of Brideshead Revisited when it first aired in the United States in the early 1980s. In some ways, it changed my life. It elevated my taste in literature and drama. It truly was and is a masterpiece. Every aspect of the series of perfect. Unlike most series and films of classic literature, this is very close the book authored by Evelyn Waugh. He would have been proud of it, I'm sure. The pace allows the story to breathe. I was delighted to purchase the high-quality DVD version to replace my worn-out VHS set. Brideshead Reconsidered
I watched Brideshead Revisited on DVD, 38 years after first seeing it on television, as a consequence of rereading all of Evelyn Waugh's fiction, also after many years neglect. Viewing the DVDs reminded me of the television experience, when each episode was fuelled by a week's anticipation and the ritual of sitting down to Alistair Cooke and Masterpiece Theatre at a prescribed time. Today, I viewed the 11 episodes in 5 successive days, and with a cynic's eye to what I now consider the series' cavalierly handled issues of class discrimination, sexual orientation, and racism, and, in the Bonus Features of the 30th Anniversary Collection, with an analyst's eye to how well, or poorly, Jeremy Irons, Anthony Andrews, Diana Quick, Nickolas Grace, and Jane Asher had aged in 30 years.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Writer Evalyn Waugh is truly a great writer who has been able to truthfully portray the eras before World War II and show the traditions of the elite.

Great series!

Engaging!

Poor technology renders discs unreadable.
