Product Information

Resigned to the dusty shelves of video stores, 1950s B-grade science-fiction films get a nod in this part-parody, part-tribute, all-laughs comedy. Lost aliens, a jailbird mutant, competitive scientists, an errant meteor, and a hibernating power-hungry skeleton are woven together in a silly, ludicrous plot. The film has only one location--a remote mountain area--nailing the 1950s aesthetic of the uninhabited wilderness, and also recognizing the cheap production costs for which these locations were picked. Shot in black-and-white video, the film recalls the look of many early sci-fi pictures, even going so far as to include the errant sunlight and stark shadows during night scenes, an obvious reference to the rudimentary lighting used back then. Campy, humorous dialogue between the characters demonstrates a time when men were scientists--strong, stolid, and logical--while women remained dainty and spent their time in the kitchen. The camera often lingers on the characters, giving them time to overdramatize and really punctuate their ridiculousness. Perhaps the most obvious reference to B-movies is in the costuming. The humans wear typical 1950s garb, the aliens are festooned in garish silver-glitter suits, and the mutant is hilariously fashioned from throw rugs and Halloween detritus. Even the strings which animate the skeleton are on display in this hilarious send-up of an obsolete era of film, the golden age of B-list sci-fi.

  • Great fun movie to watch - a few times -

Great quirky movie, "cult" classic, a labor of love - I also love "dark and stormy night" by same producers, and have ordered the sequel to "lost skeleton of Cadavera" - these actors had a lot of fun doing these movies, intelligently making fun of the classic B movies, in just a bit different way -

  • You have to appreciate 1950s horror movies...

To me, this movie is a laugh riot. I grew up watching reruns of old 1950s 'B' horror movies. This modern rendition of that genre is humorous. It pokes fun at the old horror films with (the genius writing of) bad dialog, campy jokes, good actors making bad performances and a poorly crafted mutant monster. Its worth watching if you appreciate the genre or have a good sense of humor knowing their goal was to make a bad film. That's what makes it good.

  • Laugh along with a talking skull, wooden actors and barely competent space aliens.

An intentional cheapie made to satirize low-end ridiculous Sci-Fi films of the 1950's. Characters are appropriately wooden and the skeleton is a scream (and the best part of the flick). It drags a bit in the middle as it got too talky. I was hoping for some shots of the crew, or a microphone or a boom mic shadow appearing - but it was not to be. Makes for fun viewing and some good laughs.

  • Great parody of a beloved genre.

Love 50s style sci-fi/horror movies and have a sense of humor then this is a film you have to see for yourself. Just about every cliche we love gets skewered in this hilarious salute to the Saturday afternoons of youth.

  • A silly fun filled romp thru horror and sci-fi.

So clever. A cult classic made by the irreverent wit of independent filmmakers. Love it. The film is as funny as the outtakes. Horror and Sci-Fi fans will really like this.

  • Not a serious movie and I love it!

Great movie! It's rediculous and funny. A total spoof with all the classic cliches of an old sci-fi. I have been looking for a copy of this for a while now. Thanks!

  • Lots of fun!

Entertaining Affectionate Parody of late 50's, early 60's Hollywood S.F. flicks, made by and for lifelong fans and pros who know the genre well...

  • Excellent spoof of 50's SF with memorable acting

This is a light - very light - comic riff on classic science fiction films with high aspirations and little budget. Come for the handsome scientist and his shiny car, stay for the cat woman, the meteorite, the talking skeleton, and the aliens Crowbar and Lattis who have raised the pregnant pause to adulthood and let it loom over their scenes to hilarious effect.

A strange off-kilter film recalling the sci fi of the fifties, creates an aura of mystery which persists even in the fragmentary structure.

  • What a kick. LOL

This was so funny once it got going. A number of my friend watched it and they thought it was a kick. The actors were so proud of their work.
