Join Emma, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, in rural 1800s England as she plays matchmaker in the movie 'Emma'. Based on 19th century author Jane Austen's comic novel, Emma Woodhouse sets up her single friends, but her skills are substandard. The elegant, upper class beauty is overly confident, a little brash, and always sure she can find the perfect mate for anyone. Things do not go well for the well intentioned, but naive Emma when she tries to find a man for her friend Harriet. The movie was originally released in 1996, and a theatrical trailer is included with the DVD.

Emma indeed
I’m not really a fan of Paltrow, I think her Oscar was bought by Weinstein and she is the definition of Hollywood Nepotism, but she’s actually quite good as Emma and I think this so far is the best version of the Jane Austen classic. DEFINITELY better than the AWFUL 2020 version.

Great actors & characters
Very cute movie & the characters are engaging, it is set in old time England so you need to enjoy this type of movie in order to understand it. It is based on the book by Jane Austen about a very lousy matchmaker.

Feel good movie
As I am a Jane Austen fan and I enjoy the movie versions as well. I watch every version of them and find this to be my favorite Emma. I lost my first copy in a house fire so very happy to have found it again.

THE best EMMA version in my opinion…. I am an avid Paltrow fan. If I do not enjoy the actors I cannot enjoy the movie!

Pay more and get better
The audio was horrible. We had the volume all the way up and you still could barely hear it. The video was grainy. I hate to speak negatively in a review but this was a bad experience.

Not necessary
The DVD id in excellent condition. This version of EMMA for me is not the best, but good. The costumes and scenery are visually pleasing.
