Dipping a spoon in a jar of peanut butter and coating it in M&Ms while watching gory medical shows on television is, for Pursy (Scarlett Johansson), an afternoon well-spent. But, when her mother's death forces her to get off the couch and leave her trailer park and grimy boyfriend behind, she finds some new friends who have her bested in the sloth department. Arriving at her late mother's home in New Orleans, she meets Bobby Long (John Travolta) and his sidekick Lawson (Gabriel Macht), two sweaty alcoholics who are squatting in the dilapidated dwelling. Bobby Long not only lies to Pursy about the fact that she legally owns the house--taking advantage of her innocence--he also behaves like an angry and aggressive dirty old man. It is Lawson who sees Pursy for who she is--a directionless 18-year-old girl who desperately needs guidance and positive role models. His fatherly support sparks an instant crush between the two, which only fuels Bobby's drinking and deviance. However, with time and patience the three friends find they have more in common than they first realized, and they help each other to get back on track.A moody film in set in toxic shades of blue, green, and red, A LOVE SONG FOR BOBBY LONG combines the lazy, lurking, sometimes romantic mystique of New Orleans with the desperation of three lost souls. Rain storms counterbalance hazy summer days drinking beer and singing folk songs, while Bobby Long and Lawson--who were formerly English teachers--add a necessary dose of intellect with their constant literary trivia.

    Soothing Drama

    In My Opinion John Only Has Done One Movie I Actually Didn’t Love Battlefield Earth So I’m A Bit Bias I Think But Bobby Long With Scarlett& Gabrielle Is A Fine DVD Though A Dud Cause It Did Nada Financially And John’s Had His Share If Hits& Misses I’ll Admit But He’s Such Truly Likable Actor& Has Hurt So Much Losing A Son,Then A Wife,I’m Always Pulling For That “ Vinny Barbarino” To Come Out From Him!!!!!!Such Innocence& Confidence All At Once!!!!Anyway Thanks EBAY Wife& Myself Loved it🎥📽️❤️❤️Faith&Charlie Sole!!!!!

    An early Scarlett marvel

    It's a pleasure to watch young Scarlett Johanssson and to see Travolta in a role unlike any other he's played. The movie is necessarily slow at times, but that gives you time to reflection of the relationships and what else is happening. Even some of the deleted scenes are engaging. So, yes, it's different - but in a good way.

    GREAT movei! Seriously under promoted.

    This is a beautiful movie, part love story part life story. Scarlett Johansson and John Travolta were really great and made their characters come to life, and believable. This movie is a "sleeper" and wasn't promoted much, but is a definite must see!

    One Of My Favorites

    New Orleans conjures up romantic images of warm nights and cool jazz. The title of this movie seems hardly appropriate as the movie begins... only as the plot unfolds does the "love song" bloom. The viewer will finally feel the love and the build up will then make sense. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

    Beautiful story

    Beautiful story about a girl trying to find herself after a failed relationship and her mother's passing. She finds even more when she goes to live in her mothers home that was left for her. I would highly recommend this movie.
