"Visually luxurious."--Holland Cotter, New York Times Book Review "Visually luxurious . . . a persuasive reminder--those colors!--of what made Gauguin the modernist pioneer he was, and the contemporary star he is. . . . Very readable essays all touch on the ethical reservations that are now forever attached to his body of work . . . [while] the reproductions stand as proof that at least some of his art is still, more than a century on, stop-and-stare beautiful, and in ways that no other art is."--Holland Cotter, New York Times Book Review, "Visually luxurious."--Holland Cotter, New York Times Book Review "Visually luxurious . . . a persuasive reminder--those colors!--of what made Gauguin the modernist pioneer he was, and the contemporary star he is. . . . Synopsis
The first in-depth investigation of Gauguin's portraits, revealing how the artist expanded the possibilities of the genre in new and exciting ways Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) broke with accepted conventions and challenged audiences to expand their understanding of visual expression. Nowhere is this phenomenon more evident than in his portraits, a genre he remained engaged with throughout all phases of his career. Bringing together more than 60 of Gauguin's portraits in a wide variety of media that includes painting, works on paper, and sculpture, this handsomely illustrated volume is the first focused investigation of the multifaceted ways the artist approached the subject. Essays by a group of international experts consider how the artist's conception of portraiture evolved as he moved between Brittany and Polynesia. They also examine how Gauguin infused his work with symbolic meaning by taking on different roles like the Christ figure and the savage in his self-portraits and by placing his models in suggestive settings with alluring attributes. This welcome addition to the scholarship on one of the 19th century's most innovative and controversial artists reveals fascinating insights into the crucial role that portraiture played in Gauguin's overall artistic practice., The first in-depth investigation of Gauguin's portraits, revealing how the artist expanded the possibilities of the genre in new and exciting ways Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) broke with accepted conventions and challenged audiences to expand their understanding of visual expression. - 2***a (45)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufAmazing deal! The description said like new but the box and cards inside were still wrapped in plastic so it had never been used or opened. There was one little corner on the box that was not perfect but I’ve received brand new decks like that before just from shipping. I will definitely purchase from this seller again.
- a***9 (74)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufFast shipper, item was well packed for shipping, item received was not in great condition. But seller quickly responded to the problem, and could not have been more helpful, I would gladly buy from this seller again.
- u***y (99)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufNot exactly as described. Condition on listing "very good; damaged". Item has puncture/tear in middle of box. Wish used actual pictures instead of stock photo and "shelving wear on corners" to see actual damage. Luckily, not gifting to anyone. Shipping time was reasonable. Shipping packaging was lacking; padded envelope ONLY for a box kit, no protection. Otherwise no damage to actual kit parts. Overall satisfied with this transaction because of price for condition.Pokémon Crochet Eevee Kit: includes materials to make Eevee and instructions fo (Nr. 356590683806)
