Dissecting EnGenius EnStation5-AC
Pros: Easy to fix an angle.
Cons: Hard to choose proper angle on long distance.
Although, It can be solved by 2 additional USB controlled servo motors or cheaper steppers, NEMA 17 for example.
Alternative methods:
a) Using applications that show temperature density of Wi-Fi signal on the way between two points
b) Calculating relatively hard formulas related to Fresnel zones with obstacles , keeping in mind many possible paths of Wi-Fi waves (mirror's paths including) .
I get ~3Mbit from start without choosing proper angle on distance ~40m to a router that behind 1 glass wall and 1 plaster wall and other obstacles like cars, lights and balcony.
Pros: The device has 2 Wi-Fi cards and options like AP/Client Bridge/WDS station/WDS AP, selective strength of signal and distance.
Cons: The device doesn't have root shell access. It can be helpful for additional tuning.
Although, It was relatively easy to get root. I get the root, and found this:
My device is Enstation5-AC. 3.5.9.2 build-190509 (ce60740). Build Date : 2019-05-09 10:14
Memory 128Mb.
It was linux-4.4.60 kernel on the device. I also checked all updates from company site. Last one 3.7.0.3_c1 also using Linux-4.4.60.
The firmware is modified OpenWRT build based on uclibc version.
[ 0.000000] Linux version 4.4.60 (caridee-BM6835) (gcc version 4.8.3 (OpenWrt/Linaro GCC 4.8-2014.04 7511a9d) ) #1 Thu May 9 10:13:17 CST 2019

PROS: Two atheros Wi-Fi cards: Atheros 956X b/g/n and very good QXA9888: 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11ac, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11n. You can get very good link by tuning the card from root shell.
Pros: You can re-flash the device with You own firmware. OpenWRT for example.
Pros: if somehow You bricked the device, it is enormous amounts of restoring methods.
Cons: kernel is not hardened, but easiest method to make it more secure is : gentoo linux patches and cross-compiler to build one for current 4.4.60 or 4.9.135 with dapper security patchset.
