Reviews"A novel that brilliantly illuminates some of the darker interconnections between politics and sex . . . Just as the world of Orwell's 1984 gripped our imaginations, so will the world of Atwood's handmaid!" -- The Washington Post Book World " The Handmaid's Tale deserves the highest praise." -- San Francisco Chronicle "Atwood takes many trends which exist today and stretches them to their logical and chilling conclusions . . . An excellent novel about the directions our lives are taking . . . Synopsis#1 New York Times bestseller Look for The Testaments , the sequel to The Handmaid's Tale , available now. An instant classic and eerily prescient cultural phenomenon, from "the patron saint of feminist dystopian fiction" ( New York Times ). Now an award-winning Hulu series starring Elizabeth Moss. In Margaret Atwood's dystopian future, environmental disasters and declining birthrates have led to a Second American Civil War. The result is the rise of the Republic of Gilead, a totalitarian regime that enforces rigid social roles and enslaves the few remaining fertile women. Offred is one of these, a Handmaid bound to produce children for one of Gilead's commanders. Deprived of her husband, her child, her freedom, and even her own name, Offred clings to her memories and her will to survive. At once a scathing satire, an ominous warning, and a tour de force of narrative suspense, The Handmaid's Tale is a modern classic. Includes an introduction by Margaret Atwood, #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - An instant classic and eerily prescient cultural phenomenon, from "the patron saint of feminist dystopian fiction" ( The New York Times ) - The sixth and final season of the award-winning Hulu series starring Elisabeth Moss is now streaming Look for The Testaments , the bestselling, award-winning sequel to The Handmaid's Tale In Margaret Atwood's dystopian future, environmental disasters and declining birthrates have led to a Second American Civil War. • Award winning.

I saw a clip on YouTube, I don't have hulu, with all the awards this show has one and watching the interview on t.v. with the author. Had to buy this book. Glad I bought it.

  • Handmaids big disappointment

I am a rabid reader and when they bother to make a TV show or movie about the book I read the book. I have found that on a whole it's a big mistake and this is one of those examples. Story moves like a painting ,interesting but no motion. It was a quick read, thank goodness. One word. Boring!

  • Haunting, but significant in these times

This story is a bit haunting - even a little disturbing - in light of what we know about other cultures that exist in the world today... and the story told, even though fictional, is of a life situation in which, at least in some respects, some women actually DO find themselves now, in countries in which every person's life is very strictly controlled at every respect. An excellent and well-written read, it is - or should - serve as a reminder to us that, despite our problems, we here in the US enjoy a level of freedom that is almost unique in the world... and that those freedoms are well worth fighting for..!

  • Perfect for a book-lover

It came earlier than expected. The font is legible and it looks a lot like the font used in the physical book. Very friendly customer service. Highly recommend! I hope to buy more books from them in the future

  • Very good read I loved it

I thought it was a frightening dystopian future that could never happen in reality. Then I looked at our world and maybe its not a fiction book. A Very worthwhile book to read.

  • Great book with truly interesting far out ideas

Nothing like the movie I expected more disgusting parts & am happy to say that was omitted. Good story line a little hard to follow

  • Mesmerizing stoory by Margaret Atwood

I really enjoyed reading this story; its frightening what the future might hold, and how easy it could happen, even now. I didn't want the story to end, and I think I will read it again.
