Great for viewers of "The Pacific"
If you watched "The Pacific" it's interesting to read the material it was based on. The author has been a professional writer since High School so it is written better than a lot of memoirs. Also interesting to see how certain characters were actually constructed from several different actual people ("Snafu" is a good example). True perspective from a combat veteran
A friend of mines father was a marine who on was part of the invasion of Pelau and there is not much written about it other than the horrific losses suffered by the 5th marine division. Thank you Robert Leckie for bringing the facts to the fore front so we now know why he didn't talk a lot about it. Excellent WWII read.

From even before Parris Island
