  • Classic guide to writing nonfiction

I am reviewing the seventh edition of this very well designed guide to writing. I chose it because I was not interested in advice on how to market my writing, as is the wont of competition.

  • What I didn't know

I have been writing most of my adult life, dating back to the late 50s. I vainly thought I was a pretty good writer, what else could I possibly learn? A good friend recommended I read William Zinsser's book On Writing Well. I'm glad I did, because I discovered many common mistakes writers make, and how to cure them. I'm on my second reading and discovering yet more ideas to help me improve. Richard Landerman, Salt Lake City
