After emailing to complain, merchant explained to me, in very considerate terms, why this had happened and that the product itself was original and in working order. However, they did offer me either a rebate for the damage or a full refund. While it was not the best experience from a first touch perspective, the vendor did make things right in the nicest possible way and I will do business with them again.
