  • Unadulterated history of the U.S.

It's great to read history as it was written at the time and not get the glossed-over, sweetened-up version. I'm referring to the beginning of Zinn's book that cites actual accounts from men's journals of the conquest of indigenous peoples in "the New Land." Quite horrific! It is a slow read for me, but very worth it. I'm eager to continue on to the more present age and see what my high school history books decided to hide.

  • Excellent book about our horrible nature/history.

OK, warning, this is a very hard book to read because it displays the horribleness of humanity. In this book, rich white people are the tyrants, and perhaps whites can be evil in different ways that other races, but I'm quite sure all men in power from whatever races can be horrible. I used to wonder why the US government broke all 300+ treaties they made with the Indians. The 'law' was used just as effectively to take advantage of whites with no land, servants, and poor farmers. And it goes without saying, black slaves. I can only read a chapter at a time, before putting it down and being disgusted that I am human, then trying to figure how/why people get so bad. I'm retired, taught college & middle school, this book is an essential read for any history buff/teacher. Also read "1491" by Charles Mann for the history before Columbus. Its much more fun.

  • Excellent book and it arrived in superb condition.

I have owned a few copies of this book. I have lent them out and have not received them back. If you would like to know the history of our country from the very very beginning, then you cannot do better than this book. I really appreciated the fact that this book arrived from the seller in near perfect condition. Thank you.

  • Everyone should read this book.

Everything you've learned in school about American history is not exactly "truth". What is taught in school is only told from the side of the winner. The internal class struggles in American society has been overlooked with this dream idea of a "United States". This book is very enlightening.
