SynopsisThe astonishing New York Times bestseller that chronicles how a brain scientist's own stroke led to enlightenment On December 10, 1996, Jill Bolte Taylor, a thirty-seven- year-old Harvard-trained brain scientist experienced a massive stroke in the left hemisphere of her brain. As she observed her mind deteriorate to the point that she could not walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of her life-all within four hours-Taylor alternated between the euphoria of the intuitive and kinesthetic right brain, in which she felt a sense of complete well-being and peace, and the logical, sequential left brain, which recognized she was having a stroke and enabled her to seek help before she was completely lost. It would take her eight years to fully recover. For Taylor, her stroke was a blessing and a revelation. It taught her that by "stepping to the right" of our left brains, we can uncover feelings of well-being that are often sidelined by "brain chatter." Reaching wide audiences through her talk at the Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) conference and her appearance on Oprah's online Soul Series , Taylor provides a valuable recovery guide for those touched by brain injury and an inspiring testimony that inner peace is accessible to anyone., "Transformative...[Taylor's] experience...will shatter [your] own perception of the world." --ABC News The astonishing New York Times bestseller that chronicles how a brain scientist's own stroke led to enlightenment On December 10, 1996, Jill Bolte Taylor, a thirty-seven- year-old Harvard-trained brain scientist experienced a massive stroke in the left hemisphere of her brain. • Read it once, use it for life!

Amazing lessons about how the brain works for us and how we can harness its distinct sides to work for us as we want it to. Dr. Taylor is an excellent writer and tells a story in a compelling way while keeping the scientific parts very easy to understand and appreciate. Thanks for this great book!

  • Excellent Book

This book is very good for understanding how the brain works. It was written by a brain scientist who had a stroke and also the presence of mind to recount what the experience was like. Very useful and interesting.

  • my stroke of insight

well written and very helpful for loved ones of stroke victims as well as for loved ones of dementia patients--best bit of advice: accept what is NOW, not what was or what is hoped for.

  • Stroke of Insight chronicles

Health care professionals and researchers read about the pathophysiology and physiological effects of a stroke every day. “Stroke of Insight” chronicles the same and more from the perspective of the active sufferer. This is a must read for everyone involved in the care of a person who has had a stoke.

  • Totally captivating

I loved this book. It's a rare opportunity to hear from a brain about what she was thinking at the time of her stroke. That alone in amazing but there's much more. I recommend this book highly.
