The Martian
The Martian is an amazing journey basically of one man stranded alone on Mars, and his fight to survive and return to earth. Matt Damon is stellar in this film and won a Golden Globe for best actor for it. He was also nominated for an Oscar, but lost out to Leonardo DiCaprio. I recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a good solid story line. I was totally captured by the events that the character went through, as well as those back on earth in their attempts to figure out a way to attempt a rescue. All in all it's an engaging film with lots of twists and turns.

The Martian
Overall a very good movie. The special effects really make you feel you are on Mars with Matt Damon. The only negative I found is that the movie tends to slow down in the middle. Matt Damon is stranded on Mars and the clock is ticking ( all be it a clock that goes on for years). In its own way kind of like Tom Hanks in Castaway. Stranded, alone with the clock ticking. Will he make it or die trying in his solitude. Of course Matt Damon connects with earth and there is all the drama taking place on Earth to rescue him; with Castaway it was just Hanks with that volley ball !

Run, don't walk to watch this movie!
So I bid on several copies and now have watched this movie 6 times in the past month! Yes, it is fabulous! Matt Damon is hilarious and a believable character in this film. I am giving the extra copies to two of our friends, who we ran into at lunch, after watching the film the first time who also loved it--we talked about it extensively! Yes, I won this movie 3 of the 6 times i bid!

If you like Matt Damon...
Matt Damon is the main character and as such is on screen 95% of the time. After being presumed dead in a fierce Martian sandstorm, Mat Damon is left behind by his fellow crew mates. This is the story of how he survived, how he was able to contact and communicate with NASA. I give this movie 5 STARS, and that doesn't happen very often. Buy it, rent it - enjoy.

The MARTIAN
Over all It's a good movie. The characters were believable and special effects and scenery were fantastic. I do think it was over rated and rather "commercial", like Armageddon, or other sci-fi movies that have come out in the last decade. With big name actors and unnecessary and washed up/ re-hashed songs more than a few times. Still a good story, but wish I had rented it instead of buying, as I'm not too interested in watching again.

Exciting, but....
Matt Damon, as always, was superb and a cutie (sorry!). The special effects were indeed special and visual content (scenery) excellent and what I would expect to see; well acted by all cast members. I appreciated the movie was about intelligence and perseverance rather than blood and guts, but. I kept waiting for my brain to explode from sheer drama -- but it never quite happened. Not sure what I was missing but enjoyed the movie anyway - well worth the price.

The Martian... well actually and earthling on Mars, but I digress...
If you like SCIENCE in your fiction, you'll love this movie. Just ignore the storm as a plot device at the beginning, the air is not thick enough to do that, but the rest of the move is ... B L O O D Y A W E S O M E ! ! !

Couldn't be better
As a tech geek, I particularly like the movie plotline being rated by space experts as "plausible future action instead of pure fiction. Also, owning the DVD means being able to review any scene desired. The DVD extras are great

Great adult movie of the year
This is one of those great adult movies of the year. One of the most entertaining I have watched in a long time. Matt Damon is very believable in the role of the "left behind" astronaut as this saga chronicles the ups and downs of everyman in his race to beat the odds and survive on another planet.
