August Doorbell 1st Gen is OK performer.
Setup was easy. No need to turn off power (it’s just a doorbell). Also, no need to charge up and then remove for pairing. Just wait 15 minutes and then set up with your router. Placement of my bell was right next to the door. It was recommended that I should use the wedge to angle the camera. The wedge makes it look a bit (more) bulky but it was the best thing to do. Video quality depends on your WiFi upload speed so if you don’t have a good system, then you won’t get good results. I have only had the doorbell for 2 days. My router and the front door were at opposite ends of the house. I had to move the router to a different location to get better connectivity. Once that was done, I had no issues with the August app or connections. I look forward to seeing how this integrates with our household.

Sorry, but completely and totally worthless.
The August doorbell had been recommended by a couple of friends so I thought hey why not it was a toss-up between them and rang and I like the shape of the August better. So I purchased the unit. It arrived new sealed in box I thoroughly read the instructions drilled the required holes in my home and wired it directly. And we could not get it to work any way shape or form. We could not get it to connect we could not get it to set up. It was visible on the network but it wouldn't do anything. Downloaded and reloaded the application numerous times hoping that it was a glitch and it was just completely and totally not going to work. Took it off the house and shipped it back. Ordered a ring. After I patch the holes in the house drilled new ones to mount the Ring and 15 minutes had the account set up and in use. My personal advice. Stay as far away as possible from the August.

Very easy installation, works quite well
I got this to add to the door lock and they both work together very well. Easy installation on both units. The video is very good and is very fast to come on. It works also very well when away from the house. Very happy with the purchase.

waste of money
Very expensive doorbell that almost never works! The app is the worst! it takes too long to connect when it does connect and most of the time it just doesn't connect at all. It claims it will notifies you when someone is at your door even if they don't ring the bell, it doesn't. sometime it doesn't notifie you when they do ring the bell. The app wants too many permissions that are unnecessary, contacts,photos and a whole bunch of info. what you have here is a very expensive door bell that does nothing but ring.

Disappointing, glitchy.
Auto unlock is worthless unless you want to stand in front of the door for 2 minutes while it searches for your door lock. Can't connect to video stream most of the time. Suggests that you run a speed test, reports that speed is fine, still can't connect. I have a brand new very fast Android phone. This app is worthless. Bell and lock appear well made, software totally sucks!

Debating one or two stars
Ok when it works but would frequently lose its WiFi connection. WiFi is very strong at that spot. After changing to a new Netgear WiFi router and resetting per customer support, the doorbell became unavailable to WiFi and I was told by customer support it was no longer functioning. This, in itself would rate two stars for me but August never implemented the promised Homekit support (now over a year) and has superseded the model with a new, non homekit, model.

Fair price but unstable connectivity
The price is fair, it was quite easy to setup (just a little tricky for mac users), but the connection was rather weak, that it goes offline and online frequently, sometimes up to 10 times a day. If you use this product, you will need a wifi repeater definitely.

Not worth it
Its a good camera good quality good looking product but it will messed up your lock functions. Since you install it the lock start to go thru your wifi so it take forever to connect so you will have to stay in front of the door for a minute until you finally get connected they said to me that they are trying to fix that issue but until then it's not worth it

Despite the bad reviews and Wifi signal requirements, I'm positively surprised
Hi got this cam bell since I have the Smartlock and wanted to try the integration. The installation wasn't that easy since the router need to be definitively close when concrete walls are present, but after I added a close Access Point to the second floor's windows, I have to say that it's working well. Some times the live image takes ages to come, but others just five seconds or less. One positive thing is the still free cloud storage for the videos, but they might start charging at some point.

Perfect accompaniment to the August lock with bridge
Even stand alone, this doorbell captures excellent images. I have not had a bunch of false alerts. The field of view is very good.
