Synopsis
The Bear Is My Father is a legacy book that shares the profound teachings of a renowned multi-tribal Muscogee Creek medicine man, Bear Heart, one of the last traditionally trained medicine persons of the Muscogee Creek Nation. While it is traditional among Native American medicine that a healer takes on an apprentice to learn their ways and then pass them on, Bear Heart's medicine was so varied that it could not simply be passed along to any one person. Thus, over the course of his life of service, Bear Heart shared pieces of his wisdom with different people, depending on who could use it. This book is authored in part by Bear Heart himself, with insight into better ways of co-existing and living meaningfully on Earth, such as practicing alternative healing methods and using spirituality to unify instead of divide. It is co-authored by Reginah WaterSpirit, Bear Heart's medicine helper and late-life spouse of 23 years, whose intimate and insightful stories and reflections give a more personal portrayal of Bear Heart. Featuring contributions from those who knew and were touched by Bear Heart's teachings, the collective voices within these pages provide the reader with a multifaceted and highly intimate understanding of Bear Heart. The Bear Is My Father is yet another way for Bear Heart to continue sharing his medicine with the world. Book jacket., The Bear Is My Father: Indigenous Wisdom of a Muscogee Creek Caretaker of Sacred Ways is considered a love story between Bear Heart and a community that stretches across the globe. This book celebrates the life, teachings and legacy of Marcellus Bear Heart Williams, a Multi-Tribe Spiritual Leader and author of the critically-acclaimed The Wind is My Mother. Bear Heart (1918 - 2008), was a Muscogee Creek Native American Church Road Man with a talent for seeing people as individuals, and for making them feel seen and special in their own ways. The Bear Is My Father: Indigenous Wisdom of a Muscogee Creek Caretaker of Sacred Ways contains the final words Bear Heart wrote before his "going on" as well as contributions from friends and family whose lives were forever changed by Bear Heart's presence and work. In this new book, Bear Heart uses stories of his youth and traditional medicine practices to convey lessons and knowledge about living in harmony and with respect for all. Offering a mix of history and spiritual wisdom, The Bear is My Father is co-authored by Reginah WaterSpirit, Bear Heart's Medicine Helper and wife of 23 years. When Reginah would ask Bear Heart exactly how he made his medicine, he always answered, "I don't make the medicine, it was here before me. I've been entrusted to be a caretaker of certain sacred ways."

Amazing deal! The description said like new but the box and cards inside were still wrapped in plastic so it had never been used or opened. There was one little corner on the box that was not perfect but I’ve received brand new decks like that before just from shipping. I will definitely purchase from this seller again.
