NotesThis exciting debut recording from Quicksilver, brings together the leading historically-informed performers in America today to explore the rich chamber music repertoire of seventeenth century: new technologies were emerging, a mercantile economy was developing, the earth was no longer at the center of the universe. Music also had it's own cultural revolution. Composers consciously began to create "new music," a stile moderno of dramatic emotional contrasts very different from the smooth tapestry of Renaissance polyphony. This CD brings that transition to life. Robert Mealy is one of America's leading historical string players; he led the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra in three Grammy-nominated recordings, is Professor (adjunct) of Early Music at Yale, and faculty on the Historical Performance Program at Juilliard. Lauded for her "invigorating verve and imagination" by the Washington Post, Julie Andrijeski is among the leading baroque violinists and early music pedagogues in the U.S. She holds principal positions with Apollo's Fire, New York State Baroque (Concertmaster), the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra (Artistic Director), Cecilia's Circle, and The King's Noyse.
