Synopsis
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - The #1 bestselling author of The Anxious Generation and acclaimed social psychologist challenges conventional thinking about morality, politics, and religion in a way that speaks to conservatives and liberals alike--a "landmark contribution to humanity's understanding of itself" ( The New York Times Book Review ). Drawing on his twenty-five years of groundbreaking research on moral psychology, Jonathan Haidt shows how moral judgments arise not from reason but from gut feelings. He shows why liberals, conservatives, and libertarians have such different intuitions about right and wrong, and he shows why each side is actually right about many of its central concerns. In this subtle yet accessible book, Haidt gives you the key to understanding the miracle of human cooperation, as well as the curse of our eternal divisions and conflicts. If you're ready to trade in anger for understanding, read The Righteous Mind ., NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * The #1 bestselling author of The Anxious Generation and acclaimed social psychologist challenges conventional thinking about morality, politics, and religion in a way that speaks to conservatives and liberals alike--a "landmark contribution to humanity's understanding of itself" ( The New York Times Book Review ). The book was exactly as described and arrived quickly. The only problem is a recurring one with this seller and other similar sellers - the book is poorly packaged in a plastic envelope and gets heavily bumped in shipping. I would like to see the books wrapped before shipment, but I understand this can't be done for cost reason. Luckily it isn't an expensive book, and I will continue to purchase basic books from this seller. A+++++

Book arrived quickly and is pretty close to "Very Good" description. Value priced and I'm glad I made the purchase as this is an excellent read. However, the book was mailed loose inside an over-sized plastic bag without any protection. Wrapped in a bubble wrap jacket would be a big help. A book can take a beating in USPS transit without some buffer. I can't tell if the bumps and dings were original or occurred in transit. I'd prefer to pay for shipping than have it sent with no protection.

  • A Guide To Understanding Why Good People Can Have Different Values Than You Do

This was a text for a class I am taking, I did not expect much from it, except reading assignments. I was pleased to find that it was much more - not only it is an interesting read, it really does explain how we can all be GOOD people yet have very different views on politics and religion. The author uses real life examples and as well as data and studies to explain how measuring moral decisions and foundations play a role in how we treat each other and determine what is fair, right and acceptable in society.

  • Great book!

I'm still reading the intro but already, it makes me think about other perspectives on the same subject. I might re-write this evaluation once I get deeper into the book.

  • Well researched

Haidt has done a fantastic job of explaining how conservatives and liberals think and the psycological and anthropological reasons for the difference.

  • Thought-provoking

The argument of the book is quite compelling: politics and religion divide people because people are guided by deeply different moral convictions. These convictions are not rationally determined, but rather shaped by genetics and environment. People are like riders (reason) being carried along by elephants (intuition). Public discourse would be more civil if we would talk to other people's elephants (i.e., gain their trust) rather than shout at their riders. You'll have to read the book for more details!

  • Excellent Rear

Seems like an excellent book. Have just started reading it but the lead in and early chapeters are very compelling.
