Smug, rebellious, honest, blockade-running profiteer Rhett Butler, portrayed gracefully and naturally by Clark Gable, loves Scarlett. Ashley, who is also in love with Scarlett, marries his genteel cousin Melanie (Olivia de Havilland) because he believes that their quiet similarities will create a better marriage than Scarlett's passion. Meanwhile, sparks fly between Rhett and Scarlett at their first encounter and continue throughout Scarlett's first two marriages. Scarlett and Rhett finally wed, but Scarlett continues to pine for her beloved Ashley. Set against the Civil War and Southern Reconstruction, this tragic love quadrangle offers the burning of Atlanta and fields of wounded Confederates as part of its lush scenery. Meticulous backdrops, glorious sunsets, numerous silhouettes, and the ultrasaturated Technicolor film create a hyperreal vision. The romantic score is every bit as lush and dramatic as the photography, borrowing folk melodies from the Old South to make the tragic war concrete. Heavy nostalgic tones pervade the often witty dialogue and larger-than-life charms and faults of the leads. GONE WITH THE WIND stands among the greatest epic dramas ever filmed.

    Item came as described, works without an issue. Packaging is damaged, but that was apparent on the product images - I have expected those defects. Disc isn't damaged. Delivery took a lot longer than any other service. This is not seller's fault, but if you can - please aboid ebay's delivery service. The package has been travelling the US across multiple states with very vague descriptions on what was being done to it. Overall great experience, just send via regular mail next time, if possible.

    Historical Fiction Civil War 1860 - 1864

    The movie,"Gone With The Wind," was produced in 1939 and Margaret Mitchell's 1936 story of the War Torn South during the Civil War is the account of one woman's suffering and struggle to feed her family, protect the people whom she loves, and save her family's plantation. "Gone With The Wind" is historical fiction. This movie has outstanding direction and acting! Perhaps tales of war are told so that the people living in the present can do everything possible to prevent a war from happening in the future. Respect for all human rights is vital for a peaceful and productive society. Thank you.

    Men see a good war movie - their wives and daughters see a great love story.

    Next to My Fair Lady, this movie was the most memorable in my two daughters lives. Watched often and pleasurably. Some of our best family insider lines came from these two movies. Oh, and a lotta good historical insights as well.

    Gone with wind is a moving movie of war between the states, families separated and hard choices. War is not pleasant.

    Loved this portrayal of history. Great color and moving actors. Glad I did not live during those times.
