HOODLUM stars Laurence Fishburne in a powerful performance as Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson, the notorious Harlem gangster of the 1930s. Director Bill Duke mixes a sumptuous visual style with a message of black empowerment. Bumpy gets out of prison and goes to work for the Harlem numbers powerhouse known as Madam Queen (Cicely Tyson), bringing him into conflict with the psychopathic Dutch Schultz (Tim Roth), who is trying to take over the numbers racket in Harlem. As the blood flows through Harlem streets, those around Bumpy begin to question his methods-- and his morals.

    HOODLUM IS A WONDERFULLY MADE MOVIE! AN UNDERRATED BUT SURPRISINGLY COOL 1930'S GANGSTER MOVIE!

    LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THIS MOVIE! HOODLUM ROCKS! Originally saw this way back in 1997 in the theatres but seeing it again now just hits way harder. Amazing casting and wonderful costuming makes this just one extra special. Laurence Fishburne is intensely cool and sympathetically charismatic as the legendary 1930's Robin Hood gangster of Harlem, New York: Bumpy Johnson. Fishburne and Andy Garcia, as Lucky Luciano, just light up the screen here. But it's the intimidatingly disrespectful and violently insincere Tim Roth as Dutch Schultz that steals every single scene that he's in. LOL. HOODLUM isn't just about money and territorial feuds, it's really about surviving and wisely navigating the ever-changing financial shifting of the world around you as best as you can. ....MOST DEFINITELY WORTH ...

    i give 5 star rating to this film.

    I love the movie extreamly well. it has extreamy good history about the 1930`s. I love all of the great antique and classic vehicles that was used in the film. the actors in the film was realy great. I am extreamly well pleased how well this movie has been made. it is almost like reliving the 1930`s again. in a way. to me. this is not just a movie. it is more like a time machine. the movie could not have been made any better than this. I have this much to say. the only thing else is that I am very well pleased to have the movie hoodlum. very well made film.

    Laurence Fishburn played his role! Very good movie. The characters were engaging and the action kept you guessing as to what would happen next.
