Jacques Perrin (MICROCOSMOS) presents this dramatically beautiful documentary about bird migratory patterns, featuring breathtaking photography and hypnotic music. The film covers seven continents during four seasons, highlighting species both unique and common. From puffins in Iceland, whooper swans in Japan, bald eagles in Arizona, flamingos in Kenya, albatross in New Zealand, macaw in Peru, geese in Nepal, and plenty of cranes and storks in the director's native France, WINGED MIGRATION is literally a tour of the world from a bird's eye view. Filmed over the course of three year's time, the production for the movie was extensive to say the least. Using a crew of over 450 people broken up into five teams, new photographic techniques were invented specifically for the purpose of filming flocks of birds in flight. Balloon, helicopter, helicopter model, remote controlled glider, traditional glider, delta plane, and ultra-light motorized aircraft are the flying devices used to achieve the film's incredible camera angles. In fact, because birds were trained to be unafraid of the delta plane, photographers were able to fly alongside flocks, sometimes filming birds as they gazed into the camera's lens while also keeping in focus the dramatic landscape unfolding below. WINGED MIGRATION takes viewers on a unique journey soaring over the Earth as few films have ever done before.

Wonderful for People AND Cats
1st of all it's both extremely beautiful & totally fascinating. 2nd. my cat was also fascinated - batting at the screen & running behind the tv to see where all the birds were coming from. So, it's a good entertainment for him if he's housebound because of the rain or something. 3rdly, the images, the bird sounds & the music are positive & soothing. It's a dvd you can just have on in the background to make your home seem less empty -- whether you're home alone or have company.

Resilience, Courage and Beauty
Accompanying flocks on part of their long migrations, the filmmakers give us a real "bird's eye view" from an ultralight plane. We see not only beautiful landscapes but also interaction between humans and birds, from the duck dying in the oil-polluted water and the sharp fall of ducks shot during their already arduous trip to the country dweller who built a nesting house onto his cottage to shelter the large stork which returns every year to his home. While it doesn't minimize the trials of birds' journeys of thousands of miles, it doesn't paint a picture as grim as it is today. It's a relaxing film, and some of the hope may still be justified.

Beautiful
I saw this on a cable movie channel and it was so totally awesome I had to have a copy so I could watch it again and again. And you start thinking, "How the heck did they film that?" Its mostly like the bird's view of migrating - It's unliean 'nature film" you have ever watched. Highly recommended.

Amazing Cinematography!!!
The cinematography in this movie is astounding! It is one of the most beautiful movies on the natural world I have seen since Planet Earth. Amazing!
