Not that great
I bought this for the Freeview Play facility and whilst Humax boxes are normally very good this one isn't. The build quality is good as you'd expect but what lets this down is the TV guide and response from the remote. The TV guide is very poor compared to Youview and the remote response time is frustratingly slow. Gone is the little TV screen in the guide and also the info button on the remote to get program information. Navigating the TV guide is painfully slow and the feel isn't as polished. I pressed a remote button the other night 5 times before it responded and I'm running the latest firmware. The overall menus aren't really up to it, its clumsy to navigate and difficult at times to work out how to get certain features. Sort the TV guide and slow remote response out and this could be a good unit to have. Allegedly the TV's with built in Freeview Play have a better guide and I wish the same could be said from this box as Humax normally has a polished unit **edit** after speaking to Humax it was the remote I had that was the issue so they sent a new one and now it works fine...

The Remote
The recorder is handy if needing to record more than two programmes at the same time. The fly in the ointment is the remote because having owned a previous Humax over the course of three years I required three remotes in total because the buttons are fickle. Humax it appears can not provide a decent remote and my Bush Recorder Remote beats it hands down as I've had it six years at least. Humax need to purchase a Bush Remote then take it apart and redesign their own. This Humax was purchased as a present (unfortunately) for Christmas and the reason I do not like it is because it sometimes requires hard pressure and sometimes it requires only normal pressure. My bush remote is very light to the touch and I love it.

Trying to understand it
Confused with the operation of it, it was to replace an older Humax which was so easy to use I find this one bewildering, it must be my age. The product it's self is very good and the picture quality much improved. I will get there in the end and wonder what all the fuss was about. The service l received was very good and the price was good. It had all the cables, instruction book and remote control with batteries.

Replace Virgin Sky or Talk Talk, Freeview all the way
I bought this box to replace a Virgin Tevo box. It does this very well and as a bonus it is a netflix device as well. The TV choice is the full freeview package with HD and the reason I wanted this box 1TB of storage for recording live TV. You can get it to record a hole series or a one off programme. Great piece off kit. It is also a great way of up grading an older TV into a smart TV as when it is connected to your internet router it has all the functionality of a smart TV without being tied to the manufacturers platform (Samsung TV etc)

Freeview freeway for any TV, watch or record.
Excellent product gives high quality Freeview channels to watch but also records whole series as well as individual programmes. The picture and sound quality is extremely good and easy to use. This also has the benefit of coming with all the catch up channels such as ITV hub, i-player, etc. so you can watch programmes missed or complete box sets.

Humax reliable as always. Small but however.
As easy to set up as 2 previous older models I have purchased. Lots of lovely little extras compared with old models and very nice looking. However, it has 1 weakness that lost it one star. Previous models provided a full genre split for recording purposes at the touch of a button. This one only provides it for the current day and yet you can easily move the full guide to future days. NOT GOOD HUMAX!

Very nice little box
Has all the features required to view, record and set-up. Never miss a program thanks to the 3 recording channels while veiwing a fourth. Very esy to set-up. Comparing with other well known brands this one is excellent value for the mney.

This product need serious improvement. HUMAX FVP4000T
Product is good, but the there is lots missing, Press a button to return to previous channel is missing, remote control is not user friendly at all. You will end up pressing too many time to do one fuction.On screen navigation is bad. When you paush the screen struck half way, you can not see what you want. Lots can be done to make this product a better choice.

Excellent product works as it should but one does not read review
I bought two one for myself and one for my parents. Unfortunately the one for my parents is not working correctly and has a power problem this is being returned and hope to have it replaced. The one I have is working wonderful doing everything it should do and recording programs so we do not have conflicts and have to change channel because of recording a program. I love the new machine it is a pity we also get a bad one. It really is working well and the quality of the picture is so much better as well all channels where it is possible is 1080i

The Humax FVP-4000T does everything I wanted it to do.
The Humax FVP-4000T 500GB Freeview Set Top Box is well built and attractive. It is quite small compared to similar products. Going through the set-up process is quick and easy. The remote control and on-screen prompts are faily intuitive and well designed except that the remote's 'Home' button refered to in the User's Manual is labelled 'Freeview' which caused a little confusion on my part. Having said that, the User's Manual is quite comprehensive. The TV Guide is easy to navigate and allows for the viewing of future program information. However, it is difficult to view the program information for programs currently being broadcast. Recording program's is a doddle whether single programs or a series. Playing recordings is also straight forward as is playing recordings saved on a USB memory stick. I bought the Humax FVP-4000T 500GB Freeview Set Top Box to replace my Humax PVR-9300T. I did this mainly because I could not transfer recordings from the PVR-9300T to view on my PC without removing the hard disc and physically connecting it to my PC. The FVP-4000T boasted a simple wifi network connection for data transfer and as said previously the setup was easy. However, you do need to be computer literate to transfer recordings to the PC, I would recommend using a free program 'VLC media player' to do this. Be prepared to wait. I just transfered a 60 minute program from the FVP-4000T to PC and it took 20 minutes. In conclusion, the Humax FVP-4000T does everything I wanted it to do. I would recommend it. My experience with Humax products is that they are very reliable and if this Humax lasts as long as my old one (bought in Jan 2009 - still going strong) I will be highly delighted.
