Lionel operating hopper car
This car is a remake of Lionel's postwar 3456 N&W operating coal car that came with the 456 coal ramp (1950-1955). The ramp will unload the car with a touch of a button. HOWEVER, and every review I've read complains about this, you cannot separate the car from the rest of the train on the ramp due to the new truck design. Switching out the trucks is not easy as the body mold has been changed. The 4 screw holes have been filled in and have been replaced with an ugly large slit so a cheap looking tab can be bent over to secure the truck frame. Reminds me of something Marx would have done back in the day. I suppose one could unbend the tab, release the truck and frame - drill out the rivet - install a post war truck and reassemble. Now you would have a car that would function on the ramp. It's a lot of unnecessary re engineering so Lionel could save a couple of pennies. I have a large collection of these cars - they're all the same. It's too bad. Maybe Lionel could offer a conversion kit - or even better - start using the post war mold again. The car itself, really stands out with it's bright red color. Just know upfront, it will not work with the 456 coal ramp. Too bad.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu
