Ertl 4979 HO Scale Atlantic Coastline 50 Ton, 40' Flatcar #76229 LN/Box
I am totally surprised at the detail of these Ertl models as you can find them usually at great prices. The only improvements I've made to my Ertl HO scale models is change the plastic coupler and replace with Kadee and replace the plastic wheels with Walthers Proto 2000 metal wheels. A word of warning about these models--the stirrups are very fragile and if you don't handle the model only in the middle you will break off the fragile plastic stirrups. I broke one off of my Central of Georgia Ertl HO model so I broke the rest of them off and I'll replace them with some metal ones I plan on making from staples from a desktop stapler. Otherwise these models are quite detailed with good brake work detail underneath the model. After that I usually weather the deck of the flatcar and that's usually when the stirrups get broken. The last model I did very carefully and avoided breaking the stirrups. Also the grabs look like they have been individually applied but I think they are molded as they are with great detail. They even come with weathering underneath the rail car. Happy model railroading.
