    FINE DVD OF A VERY GOOD MOVIE

    As charming and original a musical, that's come down the pipe, in many a year. I think that Stanley Donan would have been tickled that the sparkle of musicals of yesteryears, has been injected into a contemporary setting. (spoiler alert) It's bittersweet ending is the subject of conjecture between friends and acquaintances of mine, with those 70 and up feeling let down, that the two lovers didn't get together for a "happily ever after" ending. Somehow, I too wished that the storybook fantasy ending would have been the way things ended for those two, but the almost happy ending achieved a wistful poignancy that one seldom sees in the denouement of true love, in the movies. As I've been lucky to have had lingering warm and loving feelings for those I've loved and lost, it's nice to see ...

    You will either love or hate this film

    If you're not into the great song & dance musical's from the 40's, or the thought of Ryan Gosling singing and dancing this may not be for you. However, if tou do like big orchestrated music, jazz, and musical's in general you will love this motion picture from the young director of Whiplash. A fantastic production and the Blu-ray is excellent.

    beautiful film with bittersweet story

    Wonderful homage to the great musical films of the 50's: big, raucous (at times), beautiful musical score. It is gorgeous in blu-ray, with great locations in Los Angeles framing the bittersweet story of two young hopefuls trying to get their careers going. Ryan Gosling is extraordinary as a disappointed composer/pianist who dreams of opening his own jazz club. And, what's more, he plays all the music himself, having learned to play the piano just for this film. I would say that this dedication exemplifies all the participants. The film is quite obviously a labor of love.

    Great film

    I hope hope don't have to forfeit my man card for admitting I love this flick. After seeing it on big screen, then renting, I had to have it on my library to hear the sings and see the scenes again. Extra features are fun.
