24 Sheriffs and a Deputy
Good guys, bad guys, good guys who may be bad guys, a whodunit, action, suspense, a kidnapping, and a steam locmotive. 24 sheriffs on a train, and a clear nod to Agatha Christie. What more could you want? Well, the characters are multifaceted, and the story complex, weaving back and forth across twenty-five years. If you're a fan of Craig Johnson's character Walt Longmire, you'll love this look at his earliest days as a deputy, and meet his wife. Not as good as the video series..
Normally I like the book better than the tv rendition but this story was hard to follow and was slow moving for such a thin book. The story as written keeps jumping back and forth in time and, although this works when its on video it is tiresome in this case. Another out of the park thriller
This latest effort by Craig Johnson proves again that there are few contemporary writers working in the western genre who can do this type of work on a consistent basis. I group him in the same camp as CJ Box, who also exceeds the readers expectations every time. Back and forth but answers questions
