1930's Struggle
Historical fiction - 1930's The Great Depression and The Dust Bowl, no rain for 4 or more years in the states from Texas to Nebraska. Families forced to move west to CA with nothing - they were starved and dirty, they were treated badly by most in CA. Unions were beginning to form then to fight for a living wage. They story follows the life of a girl named Elsa - her human spirit rose up and ended alive and ...... well read the book and tell eBay what you think!

Book..........."The Four Winds" by Kristin Hannah. Great read, highly recommend.
This author is amazing. I love this book. It is a story about the Dust Bowl era in Texas and the exit from Texas to California. It is heart wrenching at times. Really makes one realize what hardships these people went through. Would recommend this book very highly.

Must read
This is probably one of the best novels about the 1930s in the us. Kristin Hannah is a good writer who creates characters with depth. The story line is layered and moves along. I was happy to find a used copy available for a reasonable price. It is a gift for my 85 year old mother

Another great book by Kristin Hannah
Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite authors and this book did not disappoint. Very informative about what life was like for these people at this time. Highly recommended.

The Dust Bowl and a family migration to California in the 1930s.
A very good story about the Great Depression and the men and women living through it. I really got a sense of how times were then as the author developed the characters very well. I recommend this book.

Fierce women even in the worst circumstances
I read constantly and this is one of THE best books I've ever read. It's a book you just can't put down once you start and after you've read it, it stays with you for a long time. I bought the book because I loved it so much. I got it from my local library, but I knew that some day I would want to read it again, so I bought it.

Prescient work
This is a well written and researched piece. It is a prescient reminder about how we perceive and treat others, including US citizens trying to eke out an existence for their families. Farm workers. In country migration as a result of the dust bowl conditions was a horrific time in this country. Willa Cather and Steinbeck are next for me to reread. I highly recommend this book. Hannah has written many books, but this one, The Women and The Nightingale- all historical novels, are worth reading in my opinion.

Great literary work
A well written novel that gives an insights of a family and the two strong women that were brave and inspiring. A history of the beginning of the Labor Unions. Well documented the struggle during the great depression. How the hard times built characters and were a soil for survival.

The Great Depression from a mother's point of view
Comparable to the Grapes of Wrath! Book arrived on time and in perfect condition. I could not put it down. I have already finished it and forwarded it on to my daughter-in-law. Jenna Bush makes outstanding choices for her book club.

The winds facing a family farm living thru the dust bowl.
Kristin Hannah writes another great novel. A struggling family, trying to make ends meet, and protesting for equality during the 20's. These problems still remain toay. Will it ever end? Will make a great movie. Loved it!
