Readers Digest Complete Guide to Sewing 1978 version
The book is very complete in that there are many thing that we sewers from the l950's and on up in years use. It has a very nice section on pockets with linings, and it cover things that are not mentioned in newer books do not cover such as chinese buttons, how to make frogs and how to make leather buttons by placing by using a spool of thread as an aid. It also covers how the chinese use binding to cover raw edges on linings. It has a large area that covers home furnishings and drapery. How to cover a chair or a sofa. It go into tailoring that explains how to baste by machine or hand on interfacings to shape properly.a It also goes into mens and boys clothing and how to take measurements on them. It also has a great page or two on smocking by machine or hand. It cover tools that are necessary for good sewing. It also covers alterations to patterns. I highly recommend this book above almost evry book I have purchased except I rank the Vogue/butterwick guide to step by step sewing techniques an equal but none better.

Reader Digest Guide To Sewing
I haven.'t sewed for many many years , this book shows and tells everything you may need to know about sewing and even gives helful hints.

Not as good as the older versions
I have an older edition of this book which is full of helpful hints as well as being easy to use. Although I read about it before I bought I am still a little disappointed. It seems as though Reader's Digest didn't want to as thorough an edition. It is not good for a beginner.

This is an older book. Though the information within is timeless and valuable to anyone interested in sewing. Informative and jam packed.
From tools to fabrics, machine to hand sewing practices, upholstery, pattern drafting and tailoring techniques..this book is a necessity for anyone, novice or professional seamstress alike! I refer to it as my "sewing bible"

A MUST for home sewers!
Excellent source for sewing details. The only reason that this does not get 5 stars is that sewing methods have changed over time, such as finishing seams. Its a must hav e for every fashion student. Excellent, accurate descriptions with accompanying photos.

Great addition for any seamstress
The contents are just what is needed in building sewing skills. Sometimes we haven't worked a particular skill set in awhile. It's refreshing to know that I can pull that book and refresh the steps before setting of to work on the project

Perfect learning tool!
This book is old but I feel like I have an amped up school book. This covers everything from sewing machine maintenance, sewing by hand, how to read patterns, tips tricks. Its amazing. I'm going to order one for my niece as well. If you need basics and learning this is the book for you.

Guide to Sewing Hints and How to's
A complete (almost) guide to all those sewing dilemmas one faces when making or repairing. Our mom's used this guide and it is a long time favorite. These types of guides never go out of use.
