Incredible piece of history
Peter Jackson and crew did an incredible job of restoring this 100 year old footage, cleaning up the image and improving resolution, converting it all to 24fps, adding voices to the soldiers with realistic sounding explosions. The widescreen and color add to the entertainment value. This movie puts you right in the middle. It's too bad its not on 3d blu-ray.

Awesome Reproduction of the past!
Extremely Powerful Film, & without question the best computer enhanced cleanup of old film coupled with what would be realistic sound available today. They certainly got rid of the Charlie Chaplain style of movement, & gave this old film some modern character. The voice overs match peoples lips perfectly on the color film. I have a 7.1 stereo surround sound in my living room that rattles things when bombs, & shells go off. Beautifully done how they transition from old black & white footage into color about 25 minutes into the film. watched it 4 times already! My relatives are also as fascinated with as I am!

Excellent dvd
The dvd is an excellent telling of trench warfare using achieve footage that has been colorized from world war 1.

Don't miss seeing this film!
The picture quality is stunning! Do not miss this. You really have no idea what these people had to live through, this picture will really give you a reality check! It amazes me what can be done with old black and white footage. The restored film and added sound looks as though it was filmed yesterday. I bought the BlueRay version. It was money well spent.

Awesome history making movie! Had to have!
Though we haven’t watch the dvd yet, we saw this in theater and it is incredible pieced together collection of “The Great War” 100 year old footage! Haunting. Thank you Peter Jackson!

Great film
This is an incredible piece of cinema. I usually do not like colorized films, but this one is so well done that it really does bring the people to life. WWI is so overshadowed and almost lost in history and yet these people paid such a high price. This film really should be shown as part of a history of the modern world. The bonus of the Peter Jackson interview just adds to the value.

Stunning
This is amazing and even more than I expected. These are real videos from 1914-1918 that were completely restored in high def and in color with the original sound brought back to life. Some of the videos may look a little funny but that's because this is over 100 year old footage brought back to life with color that was never there before, but they did a marvelous job regardless. This will make your stomach turn a little at the gore and the eerie stares of the men in battle, the atmosphere is gripping and will have you on the edge of your seat. This is a masterpiece and worth every penny!

Worth it!
Peter Jackson has done a great job bringing old WW1 footage to life to tell the stories of the soldiers that fought in it on the British side. Must see if you're a history buff.

They shall not grow old Blue Ray disc
This is an amazing video production using existing b&w footage and updating with color and computer tech. A must for anyone interested in WW1. Beautifully done!

Time Machine
This DVD is a time machine to The Great War. Jackson's technique is Ken Burns meets George Lucas. The colorization and formatting to realistic speed/motion is astounding.
