      well worth the price - great quality & utility

      great value & outstanding performance. i'd been using an old beach towel, but fighting with that in even a light breeze just sucked the joy out of everything, so i looked into a new one. this guy is a bit on the "spendy" side, but to my mind, well worth the money. It's well made, fits the camera perfectly, blocks out the stray light, and allows easy access to the loupe. wish i'd had one years ago!

      Great improvement over ye olde horse blanket (or black t-shirt)

      I'd been using a black t-shirt as a focusing hood, but while cheap and convenient, it allowed enough light in to make focusing problematic at times. When I picked up a new 4x5 camera, I decided to look for something purpose-built. I was a little skeptical of the price at first, but it really is a well made product that gets the job done perfectly. The elastic is a little tough to fight when attaching it to a light weight folding 4x5 field camera, but once it's on there, it's great. At some point, having a velcro split that goes the entire length might be a nice feature to add, as stopping just short of the elastic means you have to futz with it a bit to get it on, rather than attaching it, cinching the elastic down and locking it in place with velcro.       Great for composition but LOUSY for focus: moves the camera when removed!

      It is super, super great for general composition but you need a second focus cloth: it moves the camera when you remove it because of how tight the seal is to the camera. So if you like to spend a long time composing, and then use a second cloth for the final focus, it is great! If you just want to use a single cloth to compose and focus, it is more or less useless for film. If you are using a digital back though, it would be better: you can see if you have moved the camera's focus/composition or not when you remove it. Still a waste of time if you have!

      Great hood.

      My camera has a really dim ground glass, with this focus hood I can see the image on the ground glass better than any other method I have tried. Having the light from the bottom blocked makes a big difference.

      Overall: Great

      Lightweight, white exterior keeps it cooler inside. Elastic keeps it snug on the camera. Velcro closing opening in the bottom opens up just enough to get hands in, without being wide open. Reasonable price that I would consider a good value. Folds up compactly for storage.
