What follows is a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to deliver Southern California's first giraffes to the San Diego Zoo. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow. Inspired by true events, the tale weaves real-life figures with fictional ones, including the world's first female zoo director, a crusty old man with a past, a young female photographer with a secret, and assorted reprobates as spotty as the giraffes. Part adventure, part historical saga, and part coming-of-age love story, West with Giraffes explores what it means to be changed by the grace of animals, the kindness of strangers, the passing of time, and a story told before it's too late.

exciting and memorable

Boy grows to man while transporting giraffes across the country.
I enjoyed reading about something I never gave a thought to before. Transporting giraffes from their native land to a zoo far away mixed in with a human interest story of a young man growing up on his own was interesting on both aspects of the story.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu

Great story
The story is fascinating. Good character development. I don’t really care for the way the boys thoughts and feelings (about the girl he’s infatuated with) are portrayed. A story that could be read aloud for all
This is an odyssey for the giraffes and the young protagonist. Both will go through many obstacles before reaching "Californy." The old man and the young man must work together to get everyone safely to their destination. Great writing.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Story telling at its finest
