Yes size does matter (at least here anyway)!
I use a 1000 liter tote tank to collect rain water from the house's rain gutter for my gardening needs. During heavy rains this tank can collect a few hundred liters very quickly. I was using a 1/2" NPT solenoid as an overflow dump valve (with a pump & automatic controls) that worked ok during light/moderate rain. However during heavy rains this valve could not dump fast enough causing the pump to run for several hours recirculating until it caught up. Since the solenoids are not weather proof, I have it & a small turbine flow transmitter mounted in a weather tight PVC box that I mount on the tank for the grow season & remove for the winter. As this ASCO 3/4" solenoid is a bit larger than the 1/2", I had to mount it as shown in the pic (after testing to ensure that it would work in this position) in order to get the cover on tight. During testing it puts out really well so now I'm waiting for the next heavy rain!
