See Shirley as a teenager
This is one of my favorite Shirley movies. I have heard people say they didn't like it, but that can be true of any movie. It's all in what you like. It's about a girl whose father's mind runs on inventions and making money from them. Her grandfather, played by a (at that time) well-known character actor named Guy Kibbee, is a retired policeman and they are just barely getting along. But it doesn't matter to "Annie", whose social life is very happy, with a boyfriend who has a car and a girlfriend who's a little silly. One of the things that I like about this movie is all the teenage slang they use. Everything has a different name and they talk a language of their own. Her father, at one point, says he feels like he's hearing a foreign language. Annie meets up with a young man from a rich family and he is enchanted with the slang, the music they listen to, the dancing, and especially with her. He is determined to learn how to be like they are and get the girl. His parents are a little dubious and her father also messes everything up, but it's a lot of fun along the way.
